Flag Code Compliance — What You Cannot Do
The Flag Code of India 2002 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 govern all use of the national flag on commercial items. Key restrictions for corporate gifting:
Cannot print the flag on: disposable items (paper plates, napkins, single-use bags), clothing worn below the waist, undergarments, footwear, or items likely to be discarded. This rules out printed napkins, flag-print socks, and flag-print disposable items.
Cannot use the flag as: a wrapping for any object, a covering for a platform, or in any manner that touches the ground.
Can use: stylised tricolour motifs (without exact flag proportions), the Ashok Chakra symbol in design contexts, lapel pins in proper proportion, and the flag itself on items intended for retention (premium drinkware, framed prints) provided proportions and orientation comply.
Practical rule: when in doubt, use a tricolour design accent rather than a literal flag reproduction.
